When to contact us
This page is for you if you need to restore the interior surface of a ceiling. Common cases in Barcelona:
- a bathroom ceiling with marks above the shower or in a corner
- a mark in a room that keeps returning in the same place
- paint lifting, cracking or coming away
- a cold corner above a party wall that darkens each winter
- an old finish that no longer looks reliable
You do not need to know where the damp came from. Two or three photos are usually enough to see where to start.
Send 3 photos on WhatsApp
The most useful things are:
- A wide shot of the ceiling in the room — shower, window, corner, centre.
- A close-up of the damaged area — no flash, in focus.
- A few words — whether the mark is growing, appears after rain, whether you have painted it, bathroom or bedroom.
A close-up alone shows the mark but not the context. That is why we ask for both. If the photos are unclear, we will say so — it is better to ask for one more picture than to guess.
A few extra details help a lot when you send them: how high the ceiling is, whether there is an extractor fan in the room, whether the mark changes after rain or after a shower, and whether anyone in the flat above has had work done recently. None of this is essential, but it shortens the back-and-forth.
How the work usually goes
We look at the ceiling’s condition first. After that it may involve:
- removing peeling or bubbled paint
- cleaning and preparing the area
- treating mould if it is on the ceiling
- light levelling before painting
- primer when needed
- painting when the base is ready
Not every ceiling goes through all steps. A small mark on sound paint is one thing. A bathroom ceiling with wide halos and layers coming away is another.
How we decide what the ceiling needs
The three usual routes for a ceiling are different jobs, and the photos normally show which one fits:
- Treat and repaint when the surface is basically sound and the issue is a mould mark or a tired finish. This is the lightest route.
- Level and prepare first when the paint has bubbled, cracked or come away in patches, so a new coat would not hold without preparing the base.
- Wait and understand the cause when the mark is growing, dripping or fed by an active leak from above — surface work then comes second, once the ceiling is no longer taking on water.
We say plainly which of these your ceiling looks like, including when the honest answer is that surface work is not the first step. A treated and repainted ceiling helps reduce the risk of the mark showing through again; if the moisture returns, the mark can return.
Bathroom ceilings
Bathroom ceilings are the most common ceiling case in Barcelona flats. The mark usually sits above the shower or in the coldest corner, where steam condenses day after day and the paint slowly gives way. The surface can be cleaned, treated and repainted with preparation suited to a wet room — but the result lasts longer when the room is ventilated, so if there is an extractor fan or a window, mention whether it gets used. If the ceiling ties into a wider bathroom problem, the bathroom mould guide helps you read the case first.
When to understand the cause first
If the mark is growing, dripping or looks like an active leak, the source needs to be found first. Surface repair makes sense when the ceiling is not taking on new moisture.
In a bathroom, condensation after a shower often plays a part too. The surface can be restored, but the result lasts longer when the room is ventilated properly.
What we do not do
To be clear:
- we do not trace the source of a leak
- we do not do plumbing or pipe work
- we do not repair roofs, terraces or building exteriors
- we do not do structural ceiling work
- we do not do electrical work
- we do not promise a mark will never return if the cause remains
- we do not quote exact drying times
If you need something from this list, it is better to say so upfront.
